GetEvacuated.com is a powerful resource for the coalition of organizations who are coordinating evacuation efforts and humanitarian support for Americans and Afghans trapped in Afghanistan.
This solution is at the center of the united effort by connecting evacuees with flight options, providing an agile storage solution for data and documents, and saving valuable time and energy while reducing the mistakes we cannot afford to make.
High-level Problem
I think it is safe to say that the data management in this extraction process is a complete mess. Handlers, DoS processors, and evacuees are spending more time messing around with data rather than focused on the task at hand.
Specific Problems
Evacuees are adding themselves to more than one list which creates duplicates. Handlers are working with the same evacuee group without knowing about it.
Lists of evacuees are kept in Excel. We can do better.
Finding evacuees in an excel file (airtable, google sheets, etc.) based on criteria is difficult or impossible without some wizardry.
Manifestation currently requires sending data to someone via excel. The Excel format changes all of the time, and excel files are not naturally living documents.
The DoS is requesting list of evacuees via excel files and emails.
There is no command center for these NGO’s. Evacuees are listed on more than one manifest. If planes do go in, they may be leaving with at less than capacity because of this duplication.
I have heard it takes a long time to get responses back from the DoS.
