Veteran Skills to Employer Needs Matching Algorithm & Portal

The Job Seeker should be able to learn about, and lever all the resources available to them to help them transition to civilian employment.

Strike Labs Job Seeker tool  empowers service members with the ability to translate their experience into meaning programs and services.  This portal is intended be a place where current service members can be directed to (find links to):

  • identify their career interests and explore pathways to get there, including pursuing accredited certification programs or other education credentials that advance their skills within or outside or their job code.

  • Prepare paperwork for their VA Benefits, Montgomery GI Bill, Post 9/11 GI Bill, and/or their Vocational Rehabilitation.

  • Learn to create a personal budget and become more financially literate.

  • Request time for job preparation from supervisors.

  • Find, connect and network with veterans for informational meetings / interviews.

  • Learn about job fairs, discover and apply to bridge programs, and then eventually search, find, become matched, and apply for jobs.

Accessing a pool of talented service members increases the odds of finding better candidates and employees.  By pulling data feeds from job boards, these businesses can become known to the job seekers without additional work if not required. Employers who lead interviewing and hiring vets would receive proper accreditation.  With an emphasis on the matching algorithms, the Employers will receive fewer better matching candidates rather than being overwhelmed by dozens or hundreds of applicants from boards like LinkedIn or CareerBuilder.

The Innovative Idea

Our solution has two parts. The first is tying together available resources to help the service members make the transition and prepare for their future career. To fill the gaps between federal agencies.  This could be done via a simple checklist for each job searcher that shows him/her the resources available, educating the job searcher of the resources, and levering the programs that already exist.  For example, the Job Seeker can learn about new career fields without the need to rebuild that tool.

In addition to levering the resources provided by the Federal Support Agencies, the second part of the solution (and potentially the biggest component) are job matching, skills mapping, job-recommending, and advanced job search tools.  At the heart of this solution are algorithms that match Job Seekers and Job Opportunities.  When the Job Seeker uploads their Joint Services Transcript which defines their military occupational specialty specific information, the system will parse the classes, certifications, work history and associated them to jobs types, careers, and other attributes.  Job Seekers will be presented with Job Opportunities that match their criteria, and Employers will be presented with Job Seekers who match the criteria of their Job Openings.  With this matching engine we can push high quality matches and limit the amount of noise in the system.

The matching algorithms will become more advanced.  Based on users actions and other “relevant related industries” data , the job seekers will be presented with other  relevant jobs.
